When do you get emotionally flooded? Sometimes all it takes is mention of somebody’s name, or seeing a certain object…something that triggers our nervous system and in an instant we’re overwhelmed. I don’t think emotional triggers ever go away. We can learn to recognize them, name our feelings, feel the feelings and self-regulate so we don’t instantly start acting like some sort of rabid feral animal. But how do we do any of that if we don’t take time to pause? Maybe that’s where we begin to regain our power…take a 20 minute pause and walk through the forest. Breathe and let go of the thoughts…they glom onto our brains like sticky tree sap. Let them go.
