Burls

When trees are stressed or injured they can develop burls which are protruding, woody growths to heal themselves. The tree can go on to live a long and healthy life and grow over and around the burl. As humans we also have the ability to acknowledge our emotional and other wounds, give them the space they deserve, and expand our capacity to keep growing. From the outside a burl can appear as an ugly and asymmetrical flaw. However on the inside it contains unique and beautiful swirls of wood that only exist because of a stress response. We all have a burl from a past trauma or wound. Does yours result in you being a victim, or a beautifully complex and resilient human being?
