When you look at this tree, do you feel sadness, or joy? There’s a sense of grief and loss for the vibrant green leaves and pretty flowers that were once displayed. What existed in the past reminds us of time that we can’t get back. We grieve continuously for the comfort of the past, not always of the person, place, or thing, but sometimes of our own identity and who we thought we were at the time. What we feel we lost is often buried in a deeper layer. Maybe we can choose to let go of the comfort to make space to learn, grow and move forward. We are all healing all of the time. The grief leaves us slowly, so slowly that it is never fully gone.

At the same time, seeds are still there reminding us that there is life ahead and joy to experience. Grief doesn’t have to disappear for there to be joy, and how bittersweet that both can exist side-by-side. Are they kept in special little drawers deep within us and in very separate compartments, or are they intertwined like ribbons of strong emotions that have been woven tightly together?
