I was out walking one afternoon with a neighbour’s cute little shih tzu (I’m not sure who gets more out of this dogwalking arrangement: the dog or I). We saw one lone swan and we’ve seen him (or her?) before. I read somewhere that less than 5% of swans will be found on their own, but does this diminish the value of a life? This one seemed perfectly content and was preening and feeding. Maybe this one is on its way to a great partnered life, but regardless of what is ahead, seemed to be making the most of the precious day and not riddled by anxiety of what tomorrow will bring.
